Movies of my Twenties

Here we are again. First, it was the movies of my childhood; that nostalgic trip down memory lane. Then we went forward in time to the 1990’s, where it was all about the movies of my teens – whatever! Now, it’s time to look at the Naughties, in particular the years 2002 to 2012, which saw me experience the fast-moving, life-changing twenties.

Movies of my Teens

Being a kid is fun, and you look ahead to the rest of your life as this long, never-ending adventure that awaits. Then as you finally reach adulthood, your childhood can seem like a blur and you sometimes wish you could wind the clock back. In between these two passages of life is a brief stint of time that some may call the best years of your life. It’s the biggest time of change in an individuals life; physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. And as much as we’re led to believe it’s a make or break time for us all, it’s seriously overrated. Of course, I’m talking about the teenage years.

Man vs. Beast in the Movies

Humans are the dominant species on the planet, and given we've only been around a short while in the scheme of things, our achievements demonstrate how evolved, intelligent and sophisticated we are. Although we like to think we own this planet and have a firm hold on every corner of it, we still share it with an unfathomable amount of animals, that come in all shapes and sizes. We live alongside them, harvest them for food and other uses, and admire them behind glass windows at zoos. But despite our strong presence on the planet, it doesn't belong just to us alone. We share it with them, and some of them animals don't always co-operate. Every now and then, they will remind us why they're here, and where we should be, instead of trying to control every piece of this world, especially when some of them have been here much longer than us. The movies love animals, and in this special review, I bring you ten of the most well known and prolific movies about Man vs. Beast. Choose your side...

Merry Christmas

It's that time of year again, or it isn't and you're just reading these reviews because you're thinking about Christmas. Fun and family, stress and shopping, holiday hell and "I ate way too much..." being the focus. Whatever it means to you, the movies love Christmas, and we get at least one film a year focus on the big day in December. Here's my Top 5 Christmas films.

Movies of my Childhood

Movies of my Childhood -  Introduction to this series of reviews

Even though I was born in the 1980’s, my memory of that decade are hazy at best. Born in 1982, I have stronger memories of the last few years of the decade, such as starting primary school and the big trip my family and I made to Scotland, where we lived for six months. So, in helping me connect to the first eight to ten years of my life, I rely on the movies that came out in that time.

When Movies Face/Off

They're also called Twin Movies; two films released around the same time with almost identical or extremely similar plots. Why does this happen? It can be studios trying to outdo each other by getting their rendition of a compelling idea to the theatres first. Occasionally a script can float around the various film studios simultaneously and through some loop hole the idea is taken by alternate sides and two separate films are produced. In other cases it can just be a strange coincidence. Either way, when Movies Face Off is not a regular occurrence but can split audiences right down the middle over which version of the same idea they prefer. Here are a few examples with my own picks.
